Bringing Your Heirlooms Back to Life
Heirloom jewelry brings with it a legacy of love, but it can also be a piece that doesn't quite work anymore. It could be an outdated style, or it could simply show the marks of its age. Pieces like this are a dream come true for me; I have the chance to bring them back to life.
Working with me on projects like these means you are working with a trusted advisor who understands and will honor the true value of your pieces. Together, we will breathe new life into your heirloom pieces, transforming them into something entirely new.
Restoration
This process begins with restoration. Antique stones often come to me showing signs of their age, typically scratches or chips. Repairing gems can involve anything from removing these chips to polishing out scratches and other damage caused by age. When I am finished, the gems will look like new: sparkling with possibilities.
Repurpose
Using antique gold and stones is a wonderful way to reimagine an old, unworn piece of jewelry into something modern, new, and beautiful. To use old gold, the unrefined gold is put into a mixture of acids that helps dissolve and separate gold from impurities. Once this gold is at 24 karat purity, it is then alloyed with other metals to obtain 14 karat, 18 karat, or 20 karat gold. Jewelers can then use this gold to hand-fabricate or cast jewelry.
Preservation
Once the stones have been restored, and the gold has been refined, we can use them again to create something beautiful and new. One such piece is the ring pictured below. It features a stone that belonged to my client's grandmother. When I first received this stone, I polished it and refined the gold that had been part of the original ring. I surrounded the antique diamond with new pink sapphires set in a modern design specific to my client's story. Beneath this gorgeous shield of pink sapphires and antique diamond is a lotus flower symbolizing rebirth. The pink sapphires were chosen to represent the love my client has for their daughters, mother, and grandmother.
The final result of this restoration, repurposing, and preservation is a gorgeous custom piece that carries with it that legacy of love while simultaneously speaking directly to your story with fresh details and a brand new beginning.
